ADHESIVE
BACKED INSTRUCTIONS
FOR ADHESIVE BACKED PRODUCTS
the following codes are all with Pressure Sensitive Adhesive backed
at factory
IVM-M-PS-DE48 VisualWall MEA50 EraseWall
and
MZA50 EZWall
Preparation
of Goods: Examine goods to assure that pattern, color, quantity, and
quality is as ordered. Separate goods by shade lot number and organize
in roll number sequence, starting with the highest.
Preparation
of Substrate: MarkaWall can
be installed over almost any properly prepared impervious surface, such
as high pressure laminates and steel.
MarkaWall adhesive-backed material
is not recommended for use over drywall or similar surfaces; for
installations such as these, use a
MarkaWall
non-woven or scrim backed product. Surfaces to be covered must be clean,
smooth, dry, uniform in color, and structurally sound.
Loose paint or other wallcovering must be removed. Nicks, gouges,
and other surface imperfections should be filled, sanded smooth, and
sealed.
Do
not hang over ballpoint pen ink, wax crayon, ink marker, oil-based
stains, or any foreign matter that may bleed through.
It is suggested that pencil be used to mark vinyl or wall as pencil
marks do not bleed.
Remove
any substrate mildew with a chlorine bleach solution, rinse, and allow
to dry before installing. Wash greasy surfaces with an ammonia solution,
rinse, and allow to dry before installing.
Some fillers contrast with the color of the substrate, showing strong
light and dark colored areas. MarkaWall wallcovering may allow show-through
due to the limited amount of opacity. Should this situation occur, it is
recommended to use a high quality acrylic primer over the patched area,
tint primer to match the substrate color.
For
installation over steel, an application of a rust inhibitive primer to
the substrate should be used. The rust inhibitive primer will lessen the
likelihood of degradation to the metal surface. For applications over
electro-galvanized, paint-lock, or galvaneeled steel no primer is
required.
Application
of Wallcovering: When installing vertically use a plumb line. When
installing horizontally use a level line. Horizontal installation is
recommended. Although seams can be written over, it is suggested to keep
them out of the primary writing and viewing areas, (30-85 inches from
the floor for 60” material and 30-76 inches for 48”-50” material).
Be sure to reverse every other strip regardless of vertical or
horizontal installation method.
Cut
strips a few inches longer than required to allow for trimming at
sidewall, ceilings, and baseboards.
To
remove air pockets, water pockets, and double cut waste, pre-wet the
substrate with a soapy solution, consisting of 1/2 capful of mild
detergent (such as dishwashing liquid), to 2 gal. clean water. Use a
natural sponge or a lint free towel to dampen the substrate. If seams
are necessary, apply a more liberal amount of the soapy solution to that
area.
For
larger runs, two installers are recommended. Pull at least one foot of
the backing away from the material prior to making contact with the
substrate. One installer aligns the material to the plumb or level line
and then use a flex wallcovering smoother (wrapped with a soft clean
cloth) to remove air and water pockets. Use a downward and outward
motion, assuring complete adhesion to the wall. The other installer will
pull backing away from the vinyl slowly and evenly as the top installer
works closer. NOTE: At seams, leave the solution under the material to
allow for double cutting. Also, dampen the surface edge of the installed
sheet approximately 2-4 inches in from the seam with the solution. This
will allow the waste material from the double cut to be removed. Using a
straight edge, double cut the seam. Remove the off-cut pieces, then
remove all the excess solution.
Lightly
roll or press the seams down. Trim material at the ceiling, baseboard,
windows, and doors with a single edged razor blade (change razor blades
often).
1)
Vertical joints should not occur less than 6” from the outside
and inside corners.
2)
Do not stretch the material to butt seams-slide the entire strip for
proper fitting. Do not use metal or sharp objects on the surface when
installing materials.
3)
Be careful not to crease or bend material when handling.
4)
Do not puncture air bubbles under the surface.
5)
If the strip goes up unevenly, peel it off and reinstall.
6)
Professional installation is recommended.
Extreme
care should be exercised when trimming wallcovering around electrical
outlets. Cut clear around all electrical openings so adequate
clearance is allowed between material and electrical wiring and boxes.
Turn off electricity when working around electrical outlets.
Clean
up: Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with clean toweling.
Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Notes: BE sure you have done a thorough job getting out moisture and air
bubbles. Get a spot light and look at the board with your face
near the board looking down the length. If you just look at board
from a couple of feet away in standard light you will miss small bubbles
which will grow overnight into an unacceptable mess. Also
any type of surface that may have moisture in it should be thoroughly
sealed or the moisture can cause bubbles.
Important:
If you have any questions about the material, stop working and notify
your supplier. We are not responsible for the appearance and performance
of wallcovering not applied according to these instructions. If, after
applying three strips, there is some question of appearance, contact
your supplier.
